Denali was everything we could hope for but we needed some civilization after being in the wild so long. Mostly a hot shower.
Our friend Jerri from Albuquerque moved home to Anchorage a few years after Susannah and I moved to Portland. We stayed with Jerri and her husband Mike and day tripped to Whittier
We had time to spare before our hosts got out of work. I had Crab and Salmon Benedict at the popular Snow City Cafe and she had some fancy eggs on toast.
We rented bikes to cruise the shoreline along the airport. A nice flat 20 mile ride
These pics can’t do Whittier justice. The access into this tiny place is by boat or two mile tunnel. The towering mountains dominate the landscape. We strolled around, ate lunch and Mike and Jerri caught up in geocaching. In the winter only 200 people live here, mostly in one tall hotel structure. It was a great day for us, but this place gets 150” rain, 240” snow, gets really windy and is below freezing all winter. I’ll stick to summer
