After two nights in Fairbanks we said goodbye to lots of friendly travelers and locals. We took the fancy “dome view” train into the park,
We had a quick layover in the visitor center then onto a sturdy green school bus with other campers and backpackers. Our drop off was 5hrs and 85 miles on a one lane gravel road at Wonder Lake.
It’s so cloudy and rainy in Denali there’s a good chance you won’t see Mt McKinley but we made our best effort to get into position. This is also the place where I’ve been most worried about running into bears. We followed all the rules, locked our food, and the camp group host let us borrow some bear spray.
Clearly we survived and photos to prove it
