If we had a week we would tour the Ring road that circles all of Iceland. But it’s 800 miles and we only had three days. Instead we shortcutted to a section outside of Reykjavik called the Golden Circle.
Iceland uses some crazy amount of renewable energy. This is a geothermal plant with huge pipes coming down the mountain
The sheep are allowed to free range all summer while the rams are all in pens. Mama sheep typically have 2 lambs. At the end of summer they all get rounded up til next summer. Well most of them. The weak and old become dinner
Hitchhiking is pretty common here. We picked up Martin Stephanie and Philip on a backroad. They’d been backpacking in rainy 50 degrees for 3 days and were happy for a warm car. They are from Germany but Stephanie had lived in Iceland after college and played tour guide while we drove around
These pictures are along the split between the American and Europian plates. It’s separating at 2cm? a year. They used to drive cars here but the road dropped a bit and they build this walkway. This is also the place where 1000 years ago the Viking freeman would meet to discuss laws and settle disputes. They say it was the first parliament.
I think this is a GOT shot too
Geyser stuff.
The water fall was the most difficult impressive bit. It’s not as big as Niagra Falls but’s it’s wilder and untamed.
Dude! We’re in the airport for the next 3 hours. Are you still around?
It’s our last rounds in Reykjavik. Sorry I won’t drive out to the airport to see you, where you coming from/ going to?
Iceland looks amazing — especially that waterfall. I see a lot of jackets. Was it cold in the middle of summer? Or just drizzly?
